So, what is a frequency?

A frequency is simply how fast something vibrates: cycles per second, written in hertz. Sound is a frequency your ears decode. Light is a frequency your eyes decode. Traditions mapped the body in tones millennia before laboratories could measure a brainwave, and we explore it from both directions here. 639 Hz, the tone long associated with the heart, is the one we named ourselves after.

The color wheel of frequencies

Every color you see is a frequency of light arriving at your eyes. Pick one to follow its thread through the Academy.

Root to crown

The spectrum, as light and as sound

Each center wears a color and sings a solfeggio tone. Follow either doorway: the color to its adventure, the tone to its chakra.

The bridge

A trillion times apart, related by octaves

Sound vibrates a few hundred times per second. Light vibrates hundreds of trillions. They are the same idea at very different speeds, and the tradition links them by octaves: keep doubling a tone, and some forty octaves up you arrive among the frequencies of visible light.
