hello everybody and welcome to our finale of our gut health I'm jul and I'm with the Academy of logic and light and we are a peer-to-peer education platform that empowers students and teachers to practice their spirituality um without indoctrination and we're here today with Emily and she is bringing us the last part of our grand finale of our gut health series thanks so much for having me I apologize in advance everyone hopefully like you can hear me okay that sounds good that is that better than it was before yeah okay okay perfect um yeah just sort of a busy night so I'm I'm here at a Starbucks feel technology I suppose yeah right yeah yeah that's much better okay perfect so I am good to jump in everyone so let me share my screen and we'll get started okay so I like this will be a little bit of an overview um from the first class just as kind of a reminder of some of like the key uh principles that I talked about with regard to gut health so yeah a little bit of a review and then I've got a couple of case studies where we'll we'll take a look at some uh tests and and see what kind of information we get from that so gut health um some of you you know here tonight might be new and might not have uh been with us the first class and so um if you weren't uh we talked a little bit about hypocrates and how uh he's known as the father of Medicine and was quoted as saying all disease begins in the gut and that was 2,000 years ago and I feel like we're just coming around to understanding really how much that was true the gut is linked to so many things um and an important I guess like principle to to know about like what makes up a healthy gut is this 8 to2 or 8020 ratio um meaning we want 80% of our gut to have uh beneficial bacteria that's what we talked about last week a little bit more in depth about probiotics and as beneficial bacteria um so we want 80% of our gut to be these uh these good bacteria um and no more than 20% of what we they're called opportunistic or the bad bacteria um and we do want both uh that is what a healthy gut looks like too so like when we look at the test in in just a minute know that uh like it's never the goal to have zero or no opportunistic or bad bacteria or uh you know something that's slightly out of balance like number one our gut changes dayto day uh but number to kind of like it says here like the opportunistic bacteria and the different microbes that we come in contact with even if like they're pathogenic and we don't really want them to stay long um it gives our immune system something to do um and so there's there's a theory of you know like we really do want just a little bit uh to keep it our immune system healthy and active and engaged but not too much so that's that is the goal this 8 to2 8020 ratio um and and problems happen when that shifts right when the 20% becomes the 80 or uh you know even if it's more like 5050 is still not ideal so it's really that's one of the main problems that I'll I'll talk about and show you today is when that is out of balance and then Lea we talked a little bit about that first class too where um I'll I'll jump ahead cuz like so this is what leaky got looks like if you're new to us tonight healthy gut on the left and leaky gut on the right and so you can see like leaky gut meaning the the cells of our intestinal lining they they literally start coming apart and so food particles and anything that's coming like passing through our digestive system will will potentially leak through from the gastrointestinal tract into the bloodstream which is on the other side that is leaky gut and the problem with this is that those you know food particles or parts of like a medication or other pathogens we come in contact with through our food and water like they're not meant to be in the bloodstream so that alone causes some of these problems um are here on this slide so signs and symptoms of leaky gut can be anything from fatigue to skin irritations to food sensitivities to someone who gets sick a lot headaches joint pain anxiety etc etc etc um and then it's those kinds of things that over time can lead to and Trigger autoimmune diseases that's that's just kind of like the progression and so you see some of the things that uh lead to leaky gut and not just leaky G I'm going to talk about a couple of other things that we you know that I see in the test um but all of these this list here in the middle are things that lead to can contribute to leaky gut it's unusual that any one of these things would create it other than maybe a pathogen and actually I just was on a training with the lab um that I I do the test from and um I I didn't know this I I learned something in this training where let's say someone comes in contact with ecoli or salmonella or you know something like really pathogenic our gastrointestinal lining so these these cells you see here they that will induce a leaky gut in an attempt to get it out of the body right something really pathogenic kind of um serious um that that alone can um trigger leaky gut but a lot of these other things it's it's more of like this progression um over time um that contributes to leaky gut so similar things will cause other gut health issues not just leaky gut but that's anyway so kind of a reminder so the way that I've learned and in my experience like the best way to know what's going on is to get a stool test and so this is the test that I use GI map it's through diagnostic Solutions it is you know I've done research and um looked at a couple of different tests I've used a couple of different tests um and I I choose this one I stick with this one for several reasons uh but it you know in my um research it is one of the best because of the technology that they use and so they're able to pick up much smaller uh pieces of information than other stool tests and other labs are so in um in talking about you know like what are some of the problems so I've mentioned leaky gut disposes is the name of that uh imbalance of the good and bad bacteria so that's the the sciency term disbiosis like that alone can cause problems um I've mentioned leaky gut uh where the the gut barrier is leaky or it becomes permeable is how we talk about it and then the immune system is activated like and then that triggers an inflammatory response like I mean that's the problem uh is this kind of like snowball effect of leaky gut um digestive insufficiency is another really big problem for a lot of people uh so a couple of different parts to digestion low stomach acid being one not making enough enzymes being another um Andor uh a lot of people have issues um metabolizing and breaking down fat so it's kind of those three parts uh to digestion to look at and then I've kind of mentioned some of those like pathogenic infections that people can have too it could be a bacteria could be a virus could be a parasite um but those are obviously uh causing inflammation causing damage to the gut and so it's often like this um all of these things potentially together right that um I'm I'm getting the information back and a test um so I'll show you that with uh I just prepared a couple of case studies tonight and so my Approach uh you can again gut health is it's so broad it affects every organ organ system and you know a gut health practitioner could focus on a lot of different things this is what I focus on is The Chronic digestive Sy symptoms um so the people that you know have tell me they have constipation or they've had constipation for 5 years or um they bloat after almost every meal that they eat etc etc people just live with those kinds of symptoms so definitely those chronic digestive symptoms but as well as um people who've been diagnosed with uh say IBS or IBD so that's croh and ulcer of colitis uh and so I work with people who have some of those more serious digestive diseases work with people with skin issues uh acne psoriasis eczema all that kind of stuff autoimmune disease and then mental health depression anxiety those kinds of things too and so a lot of the PLS that I work with they have this um story that uh is checking off two or three or four of these box and so anyway this is just kind of what I found to be what a lot of people deal with um and gut health can um doing this comprehensive stool test can really shed some light on what is going wrong so for this first client Lan my first case study so like she came to me with like you know weight gain 10 lbs doesn't sound like a lot but she's a PE person like and she've been carrying it around honestly is probably more like 15 pounds but you know just like weight sticky weight uh chronic bloating sugar Cravings pretty much all day uh relying on Mir mirx to have a bowel movement she knew she needed to be glutenfree she's not Celiac uh but had been glutened like really severely Gluten Sensitive for about 10 years and so she'd been glutenfree for about that long um she heard about a low FODMAP diet triy to do it too hard right so like this is kind of how she came to me and there there were other symptoms as well but let me jump ahead and show you what her test looked like and I know this you know this doesn't mean anything to anyone but maybe me and 10 other people but um this is her first test this first page here uh are a list of different pathogens so like the eoli and the salmonella and different things that we can definitely come in contact with uh she didn't have any of those at the time she had this one up here is H pylori which I can talk about that's a bacteria very common bacteria that um we know causes stomach ulcers stomach cancer uh you know the most severe forms um but acid reflux um and a variety of other symptoms like nausea and stomach pain and gastritis um all of those kinds of things H pylori is often at the the root cause and so she was positive for hpylori this is for good bacteria and you can just see really quickly like low low low low um and this particular one that happened to be high at the moment and then so this is the good bacteria right so again that 80/20 ratio is already out of balance because these are all so low and then we compare that with these are the opportunistic or the bad bacteria over here which it might not look too bad um this one that's marked high is a really inflammatory one these down here are actually more concerning because I don't know if you can see this but they are correlated with autoimmune disease and so even though these two that are present are not marked High um they're just as concerning if not more concerning for me as this one up here because of uh the inflammation we know they cause and she's got a parasite so right here she's got a parasite and then some of the other things um even though she's glutenfree she is like off the charts reacting to gluten her immune system is uh also reacting really highly probably to that um her digestive markers are okay up here she doesn't have any blood in her stool and her uh leaky gut is not very leaky at this moment she's had four tests by the way we've worked together for two and a half years I think two and a half years she's had four tests alog together that was her first we did an update maybe five months later six months later to just kind of check progress um and then she like she was really good for about over a year so as you like see here so like once we had addressed everything that was there took about 9 months or so she lost 12 lbs the bloating was gone no more sugar Cravings that had a whole lot more to do with like tweaks with her diet she was having healthy daily bowel movements without marax um and she uh we did um talk about the LOD map diet um but she's not someone that needs to like stick to it and nobody should um but so she did know certain foods that were high FODMAP that just um she was able to reintroduce and bring back a lot of foods and then there were a couple of foods that she just couldn't um and that's you know that's just unique to her but so she was doing really well felt great and then yeah year year and a half later so this actually was maybe nine months ago she came to me she had like a emergency room kind of situation where like the pain the stomach pain was so bad I think she did end up going to an emergency care clinic and so I said I mean I I don't know what's going on let's let's do a test Let's do an updated stool test she had eoli and for you know for maybe the average person like you get eoli you don't feel good for maybe two to three days it passes like you're okay but this is someone who you know is almost 60 years old had been dealing with chronic digestive issues for the better part of her adult life and was even though her gut was in much better shape than where I found her initially she still was just sensitive sensitive enough that the equal light like was really doing a number on her like it it was it was causing some damage and so honestly like we're still kind of working through that nine months later so that's where like the the third and the fourth test for her have come in but I mean it's something that I I talk a lot about with my clients because gut health it's not just like a you get a test once and you know you're good our gut changes um and so we need to check progress for some and then anytime I I tell people anytime anything changes and I do this for myself um I get a school test uh especially if it's something that's not resolving um I I get a stool test I check to see so then this is another example of someone who um had a pretty pretty great transformation honestly so she came to me with food sensitivities like major food sensitivities uh that were causing the contact dermatitis on her scalp weight gain as well you know 15 pounds or so again it doesn't maybe sound like a lot but to someone who's just like carrying around extra weight like you you feel it uh const Pati also was her Norm um she experienced that on a daily basis loading as well and then she was taking listl for high blood pressure there's some hormone issues for her as well that were kind of separate um but she initially came to me she'd been referred by a naturopath who because of the food sensitivities they did a food sensitivity panel and it came back you know with all sorts of Pies like reactive foods and so they both were like I don't know what to eat like go see a nutritionist right so like that's what she came to me for was help uh with her food sensitivities and as I listen to all of these other things right skin issues um food sensitivities so that's like leaky gut uh the dermatitis could also be the leaky gut could be something else the constipation like that's not normal bloating right like all of these things were like I think we should do a stool test and no one had really talk to her about the connection with her gut and so we did a stool test and this was um her first one nothing again on the first page was which is uh pathogens she does have H pylori not quite as high as the the other example uh they've made some changes to the test you can see um so we want to be like right in the middle in the green and so you can kind of quickly see like she's got highs and lows like this one outlier that is high but quite a few lows or trending low and then this one down here um they're separated because on top are individual bacteria strains and then the bottom two are Fila so things like umbrella group in other words like there's tens of thousands maybe hundreds of thousands of different bacteria within each Fila so these two Fila represent 90% of the total uh beneficial bacteria in someone's gut so when those are low that's much more significant so it gives us a good idea like so disbiosis is an issue for her she's got overgrowth of the opportunistic uh this particular one that you see is high is infamously uh connected to skin issues uh so it tends to manifest itself on the skin she's also got candida also can cause like digestive issues skin issues so like she had both of that um no parasites but digestion is an issue she wasn't digesting fats um also like kind of reactive to gluten um and then Cal protectin is an inflammatory marker she's she's still within normal range in the green there but um honestly that's like higher than what like a normal person would have so there was inflammation for sure and then I cut it cut off the leaky gut but her leaky gut was really leaky so this this was you know some of the the reason Reas why she for sure was having all of these kinds of symptoms so after addressing those things she lost 16 pounds she was able to reduce her medication for blood pressure Boney had gone away she again was having like healthy daily Bell movements without any assistance um and again just confident in what foods were good for her she she did have some true sensitivities not necessarily food um although there were there were just foods that she really recognized did not do well for her um her her other sensitivity was a nickel sensitivity which you can you can get through food uh like more more or less through the soil that it's grown in um and so she she does have a true nickel sensitivity and and like I say food plays into that a little bit um but really it was it was a matter of kind of figuring out for her uh which foods um you know didn't cause bloating and didn't cause constipation and she you know all of these kinds of other things that she was able to really tune into and and feel a little bit better than she had before and so yeah she she is feeling great it's also took about 9 10 months or so to fully resolve um everything you see here and so th you know those are two really good examples of um some of the information that comes back on the stool test and where I'm able to to un understand the why and connect the dots so to speak and so this is my uh approach to healing and restoring the gut it's called the 5 R um protocol where I'm focusing on these five things removing everything that is causing inflammation bringing in really nutritive restorative Foods uh potentially reeding uh so that's not just with the probiotic supplement but that's food and um exposure to the environment Etc can't talk about gut health without talking about mental health and so that's this release um helping people assess what maybe if anything needs to be changed or can be changed within their uh their lifestyle to to manage things better and then usually the last part is actually resaling a leaky gut so in other words I we have to work on all of these other things before a gut will actually reeal and where you can um yeah heal heal a leaky gut and and it will actually stay so this is this is my Approach um to yeah addressing all those different things you saw on the test I I love um that this stool test gives people answers a lot of the people that I work with uh have been to the doctors and had the tests and either they come back negative or uh you know not a lot of answers where I always find answers from this test so it's something that I love to do and love to be able to really help someone heal from the inside out using you know what I know about gut health to resolve some of those things I I showed you on the test and my experience with nutrition because again like none of none of this is um going to really heal without changes to diet and lifestyle so um this is a QR code to a quick quiz if you're interested in seeing you know how healthy your gut is seven quick questions um so you can scan that if you'd like I'll leave it up for just a second and open it up for questions okay so hi did I leave that up long enough yeah I'm going to post the link right now in the comment so if anybody needs that is there for you guys that was so interesting so can you tell me how it goes so can you see clients um that are not in Salt Lake City yes yeah good question so I my degree um allows me to work with almost anyone um across the US and honestly internationally as well it's just the the testing is a little tricky to get outside of the country uh but as far as like the the 50 states I can work with anyone the test uh is drop shipped to your door it doesn't yeah it doesn't matter if you're 10 minutes away or in Pennsylvania um so that's just easy and then all of the supplements I recommend same thing they're drop shipped to your home and then everything I do is virtual so yeah I I can work with really anyone in the US which is nice that's really cool and I mean I like I don't need to ask this this but I also feel like I do you're not actually looking at people's poop right it's going too L you don't correct just feel like we need to clarify yes I I mean I do get that question a fair amount so yeah you are collecting the sample and then people ship it directly back to the lab yeah I not looking at your poop nice yes felt like I need to ask good it's good for both of us yes so oh very interesting is there anything else that people to like do to they can just find you on your website and start the process from there great yeah I yeah that's I was gonna say so you can find me on my website whole Essentials nutrition.com and if someone's interested in in the test um I was going to say like we get results within about three weeks so it's 10 business days from when the lab receives your sample uh so a little bit of back and forth like getting you the kid and then getting the kit back to the lab so like three weeks um but that like that's as quickly as we can get some some more information for people and um and we can just do the test we'll have a quick consult where like I review it with you and I kind of do what I just did right like I I'll tell you what's there and what I see um no obligation to continue if if you don't want um and then if you know someone wanted to know more about my coaching program and like what I would actually do to fix it then you know that's another conversation but someone can just do the test if that's what they're interested in so yeah all of that's on my website oh very cool awesome thank you so much I keep meaning to ask you because I know you have more classes coming up um I think locally like inperson events and I just wanted to give you an opportunity to share everything that you're doing where can where else can people you and things like that thank you yeah thank you I it's like I forget about them too so yeah if someone's interested in more information about Gall specifically I I am doing it's a three-part Series in Salt Lake um flow acupuncture is hosting me and so those will all be in person we're diving a little bit well not a little bit we're diving a lot deeper um I think those classes are an hour and a half is what we did so yeah there's um I think the the links are in my Instagram for those I don't think they're on my website uh but yeah if someone was local and wanted to know more about gut health um there's there's those opportunities too and then we've got something at the end of the year but I I don't know enough about it so no nober we're still planning November yes yeah so that's in November there will be announcements okay yeah so and that will be um here in Salt Lake and it'll be a good time it'll be one of our it'll be the third Sunday of November okay okay yeah I think it's on my calendar but yeah so that's the only thing that's planned is the oh and I didn't tell you so the the gutal series that's here locally in Salt Lake that's July 13th 20th and 27th so coming up in a couple of weeks and now when you have a fermentation kit right yes yeah yeah so there's optional add-on so yeah like with the classes we're like you're getting a little bit of Education we're also doing like demos food demos and you'll get recipes and I mean it's yeah all kinds of good stuff so if someone's interested in a deeper dive like that that would be a good place yeah I've had so many people reach out to me during this and they're like oh my gosh I've learned so much so I know that people are people need to hear it I was like this should be something for your kids too like everybody should be learning about this you know yeah well that's a good point I um I I work with kids like the youngest I've worked with is 18 months I think and the oldest I've worked with is 82 so right like gut heal I mean I I think about different things with an 18-month-old and an 82y old and a 40 right like but it's it's for everyone yeah no one is exempt from gut health including myself yeah yeah myself yeah so yeah well this was amazing thank you well thank you thanks for having me yeah this was really cool I'm so appreciative for going up every week and sharing all of your knowledge and the patience for answering all the questions I just can't appreciate it enough you're welcome you're welcome so no no questions from anyone today sounds like no okay I mean hopefully that means it's because they've watched the other three episodes and they know anything now like I mean we did a little review just in case someone was new and I I think it's good to hear that again as we went through the test so oh yeah reminder any you know take the quiz and then anyone who's watching the replay let me know if you've got questions well thank you so much Emily thank you for everyone watching and we will see you guys back soon with a new edition yet to be announced
